A question we often get is how much does a fence gate installation cost? Without knowing details, this is like asking how much do clothes cost? It’s hard to say without knowing pertinent details like the type, brand or store. Circling back to gates, even though the average across the country may be $2,000 or so, it can range from a few hundred dollars on the low end to $10,000 on the high end. We need to know the following details before an accurate estimate can be determined:
|
- Grade of material: although Milton Fence sources the highest quality materials in each category of fencing and gates, within each category of material are different types suitable for different budgets and needs. For example, within the wood category, you may be looking at a pressure-treated gate vs cedar fencing gate. Or when dealing with metal, residential aluminum will do the job for a typical home, but a stronger metal such as the aforementioned commercial aluminum, steel or even iron would be needed in a high security commercial setting.
- Property: this refers to the environment in which the fence or gate is to be installed. If the posts are dug into an uneven or sloped ground, necessary adjustments need to be made to ensure a solid and stable structure.
- Experience: this refers to the contractor’s experience in installing the gate. Cheap installations and contractors are a dime a dozen these days, but if it’s a property you care about and you prioritize quality AND value (not necessarily getting the cheapest quote), then a high quality gate installation comes at a slightly higher price, without compromising on its value.
When your fencing and gate contractor assesses the property and the type of gate to be used, there are a few things that need to be measured, including details such as the latch type and placement. After all, a gate loses its function if the latch is improperly installed and is flimsy, leaving the gate susceptible to premature damage and loss of functionality.
Considering the variable climate conditions that Milton and most of Ontario experiences year around, it would be wise to consult with an expert gate and fencing contractor such as Milton Fence to determine the best type of gate for your needs.
